I specifically remember Tom mocking them by saying "I like the detail on the clock" on a low poly initial rendering of the LitD grand staircase. While Tom Lynskey from THG openly mocked LitD devs on their own FB page. LitD devs apparently acting irate behind the scenes (but we've never seen proof of their behaviour). The LitD devs and THG devs threw shade back and forth. LitD also seemed to use THG as reference material- ie they copied Scotland Road. As a result, LitD went through several phases of starting and stopping development and rebranding a few times to try and get around the legal issues, they also were going to make a Lusitania and Britannic game but literally no progress has really been seen for years. But for a while, LitD kept progressing very slowly and without much attention, while THG garnered a large following, produced Kickstarter campaigns and developed a community.Īt some point, there were legal threats from Tom towards the LitD devs apparently due to the material used that belonged to the THG team (I'm guessing it was the models Matt made that LitD were still using since he made them for the LitD mod). I'm pretty sure the split was also pretty bitter due to personal disagreements behind the scenes. (I can't speak on the legal validity of these arguments but that's what LitD argued enabled them to show off Matt's models in screenshots).

Only used in progress update screenshots for LitD and not actual marketing material. But LitD said they were allowed to use those models since they were :

But the LitD guys kept using models that Matt made for the mod even though Matt was no longer a part of LitD. So Matt, Tom and Kyle split ways with the LitD team to form THG. I'm pretty sure it was something to do with the story and the way the project was run that Tom, Matt and Kyle didn't agree with.
There were other members of the mod team who weren't getting along with them. Lost in the Darkness (LitD) was the mod that Matt, Tom and Kyle worked on before THG back in 2011 ish for the Crysis game engine.
